Brian Andrais, left, who takes over as coordinator of Member Services on May 1, 2011, gets some pointers from current coordinator, Robert Bisson, who retires at the end of April.

Brian Andrais has been appointed Coordinator of Member Services by Provincial Executive Council. He will assume his new duties May 1, replacing Robert Bisson, who is retiring from the Association at the end of April.

Andrais is currently an executive staff officer dividing his time between the Teacher Welfare and Member Services program areas. In-depth familiarity with both program areas will serve Andrais well in his new role.

“The two program areas are more closely related than people might think,” said Andrais, noting that it isn’t uncommon for Teacher Welfare to be managing an issue for an Association member that has elements requiring crossover assistance from Member Services, and vice versa.

Andrais began his teaching career in 1989 as an elementary teacher in New Sarepta. He later became a school counsellor, assistant principal and principal at schools in the Black Gold Regional School Division. Andrais served as a member of his local’s Economic Policy Committee and chaired its Negotiating Subcommittee. He also served on the Association’s Complaint Appeals Committee and Professional Conduct Committee. He holds a BA in communications from Simon Fraser University, a BEd from the University of Alberta and an MBA in educational leadership from Royal Roads University, in Victoria.

Member Services provides advice and legal assistance to members with respect to contractual problems, and deals with concerns about evaluation processes, assignments, professional relations investigations and the investigation and prosecution of members charged with unprofessional conduct. MS staff also provide assistance to local associations, training for local executive members and school representatives, advice and assistance to school-based administrators, and support for substitute teachers.
